Thai Elections Discussion - Changing Political Landscape in the Land of Smiles

  • Cleveland Park Library 3310 Connecticut Avenue Northwest Washington, DC, 20008 United States (map)

Join YPIA's Asia-Pacific Program in a discussion around the recent Thai elections. This is an off the record event for professionals in a variety of fields to learn about and debate/discuss different perspectives on international issues.

The recent elections have yielded some surprising results, though many core power-players in Thai politics remain strong. The outcome currently points to an emergent national divide between voters who support incumbent premier General Prayuth Chan-ocha and those who oppose military rule. As the military appears more and more intent on insisting that Prayuth continue as prime minister, there is increasing risk of conflict and instability ahead. That said, there are many possible outcomes, and we hope to explore some of them at our upcoming event at Cleveland Park Library (Basement Meeting Room 2) on May 2nd, 6:30-8:00 PM.
